Getting Started With Affirmations As A Music Artist

Imagine a friend told you your music sucks or you can’t sing at all?

That would really take your confidence level down a notch and you would start to second guess yourself and your abilities.

But what if they said something really positive? Perhaps something like this:

“Wow! You are super talented and your music is amazing. I really believe you are going to be a star.”

I’m sure you would agree this statement would such a different result? It would empower you, build your self-esteem and feeling of self-worth. It would give you newfound confidence and motivation to keep forging forward with your dream of becoming a well known or famous musician.

Words are incredibly powerful! Negative words cut deeply, creating wounds that can last a lifetime. Positive words on the other hand have the power to heal those wounds and rebuild your confidence better than ever before.

Think of this scenario. This time, imagine you’re standing in front of a mirror and repeating a negative statement to yourself over and over again. “You suck! You can’t sing! Your songwriting is terrible! Nobody will ever buy my music” How does this feel? Not very nice, is it?

How about a positive statement? “Your music is amazing! You are a star! You are so talented! Fans are going to love me” Now, that’s much better.

I know what you’re thinking though. You wouldn’t do that to yourself, would you? You wouldn’t expose yourself to such negativity on purpose.

Well, I’ve got news for you. Your subconscious mind is already exposing you to tens of thousands of thoughts per day. And if you’re not already totally happy and completely successful, then your thoughts are most likely negative.

Getting Started With Affirmations Is Creating Repetition and Habit

Here is a quick exercise, take notice of your thoughts for the next 24 hours. If you’re like most people, you’ll be quite shocked at the negativity that comes from your subconscious mind.

And that, my friends, is affirmations at work!

An affirmation is simply a statement which you of the repeat to yourself over and over again. The statement may be positive, in which case it empowers you, or it may be negative, in which case it can go against you are your goals.

Whether you like it or not, you are currently using affirmations. Unfortunately, though, you’re not controlling the process and your subconscious mind is subjecting you to a constant barrage of negativity. Negative statement after a negative statement after a negative statement!

Years of negative thoughts have led you to have negative beliefs about yourself and your life. These negative beliefs led to negative habits. And these negative habits are what led you to the life you live right now.

So if you’re not totally happy with your life and your music business, what can you do about it?

It’s really quite simple. You need to take conscious control of your thought process and replace those negative thoughts with positive ones.

Conscious repetition of positive affirmations will in time lead to your subconscious mind also producing positive and empowering thoughts. These positive thoughts will lead to positive beliefs about yourself and your life. These positive beliefs will lead to positive habits. And positive habits will lead you to a life of happiness and success.

And that’s a wonderful way to live!

A great place to start your positive affirmations is at the beginning of the day as you get ready. Try saying your positive affirmations in front of the mirror as you look yourself in the eye. Even consider writing some on post-it notes and stick them around your mirror as a reminder.

Use Positive Affirmations As Personal Growth

As an online marketing consultant and coach, a common question I see from people just beginning their personal development journey is, “How do I write effective affirmations?” Often they will go in search of existing affirmations that they can apply to their own situation, but they may or may not find something that works for them.

In my experience, it is much simpler to come up with our own personal affirmations because they’ll get right to the heart of the matter like nothing else can!

So using affirmations for personal growth and self-improvement is simply a matter of repeating positive statements to ourselves over and over again. To make this most effective though, here are some simple guidelines:

  1. Make the affirmation positive! Say, “I am happy!” rather than “I am no longer depressed!” Can you see how the first is positive while the second is a double negative statement?
  2. The affirmation must be in the present tense. Don’t say, “One day I will be happy!” Instead say, “I am happy now!” Be the artist you want to become NOW!
  3. The affirmation must result in good feelings. The more intense the feelings, the faster you will see a positive change in your life.

I personally find that the easiest way to create affirmations is to first write down my current negative thoughts or you could say self-limiting beliefs. I then write the opposite of that thought, ensuring it is positive and in the present tense. So you could write down the self-limiting beliefs and leave spaces underneath to write down the opposite creating the positive affirmation, then cross out the limiting belief as you go. Try using two different coloured pens.

For example, if you wrote down “I am never going to hit those high notes”, you could replace that with “I am confident. I know I am capable of anything I do. I am constantly improving, practising and working on my vocal range and I know I can hit any note I can”

You would then repeat this as much as you could, until your subconscious believes it, and starts reinforcing your new way of life.

As well as post-it notes around your mirror or some please prominent, also place a copy on an index card or notebook which you carry in your pocket, and refer to several times a day. For me, I use the notes app on my smartphone.

Partner up with an affirmation buddy. (maybe a band member) Arrange that every time you see or speak to that person, you will say an affirmation to them. And they’ll say one to you. Imagine how good it would feel to hear someone tell you several times a day, “I love your music, you are so talented and I value your friendship so highly. I love working with you.” Accountability partners can be great.

If you’re serious about creating rapid change in your life, consider recording yourself saying the affirmation over and over on a recording app on your phone, and then listen to this whenever you have a chance. While getting ready for work, while driving to work, during your lunch break, driving home, and while relaxing in the evening. (I use VoiceRecorder Pro for Apple iPhone)

Commit to this for the next 90 days, and see the changes it makes in your life. I promise you it is incredibly powerful. Remember though, that this is simply one tool in your happiness tool-kit.

Don’t neglect your other tools. Consider starting a Gratitude Journal, Meditation, or whatever else you enjoy. And ensure you use your affirmation correctly. Like any tool, if you use it correctly you’ll get great results. If you use it incorrectly, you’ll get poor results.

So keep up the repetition until it is subconscious! Repeat the statements with intensity, and really feel how great it would feel to have that affirmation manifest in your life right now. The more repetition you can engage in, the more quickly you will begin to replace your old, limiting beliefs with empowering new ones.

Believe Your Affirmations When You Recite Them

Finally, the MOST important part of affirmations is the intensity of belief you hold while you are reciting them. If you just say the words mechanically and dispassionately, guess what happens? You won’t be changing your existing beliefs because the whole time you’re reciting affirmations (no matter how great they are!), you will also have an inner voice saying, “Give me a break, who do you think you’re kidding?”

However, if you instead CHOOSE to believe your new affirmations with full faith and conviction, you will challenge the validity of your existing beliefs. Two opposing beliefs cannot co-exist in your mind at the same time. It HAS to be one or the other. This is a good thing because it means that the more you shift your confidence in your new beliefs, your old beliefs will fade away and eventually cease to exist. When that happens, your physical circumstances will shift and change in order to support your new beliefs.

So, get started now. Create some positive happy affirmations for changing your life and your music business.

“I am a happy and creative person.”

“I attract amazing likeminded musicians into my life”

“I am deserving of love, and I love myself unconditionally.”

“I accept my talent as it is, with gratitude and love. I am a beautiful person.”

“I am a caring and compassionate person.”

“I attract only uplifting people into my life, and music opportunities come to me naturally ”

“My fans love my music and can’t get enough of it”

“Every time I go live on social media I make another person happy”

“My music truly impacts and changes lives for the better”

“My fans are waiting for me to write songs to inspire them”

“I am a musical powerhouse and everybody loves what I play”

“Every time I play music online, I am comforting someone”

“I am entertaining to watch and perform”

I really hope you have learned a lot about getting started with affirmations and whatever positive affirmations you write, go for it. You can’t make a mistake as long as they are positive and empowering so enjoy the process!
